The Journey of Light

This is the journey of the light that goes from the core of the sun, to the surface of our earth.

There are three main layers of the sun. There is the core, the radiative  zone, and the convective zone.

At the start of the process, hydrogen atoms fuse together and create helium. Energy (Photons) are released. Then photons take 100,000 years to travel the the radiative zone.

It takes only one month for the photons to travel through the convective zone because it is less dense than the radiative zone.


After they get through the convection zone, it takes 8 minutes for it to reach our earth. when the light reaches earth it is either reflected or absorbed.


So this is the journey of light. It takes 100,00 years to get through the radiative zone, a month to get through the convection zone, and 8 minutes to get to the surface of the earth.
