New Zealand History (land wars)

At school, we have been learning about the New Zealand land wars.

We have been going on trips to learn about the wars. We have been to where the some of the wars took place. We have also gone to the Te Awamutu Museum to learn more facts.

We learned about the Treaty of Waitangi and how it affected the Maori people. One thing I didn't know was that the Maori didn't understand the treaty and that they thought it meant that the English were leaving the land to them.

We also got to see some of the things that were used in the wars

This is the land that the Maori have owned. It was sad to see how much land the Europeans had taken off the Maori.

On last week's trip, we went to the Rangiaowhia church. The church had a very sad history. There were women and children at the church when it got attacked. The Europeans didn't know who was male and who was female, because of the long hair and robes.
Many people got killed, and some of them were younger than two years old!
