The Industrial Revolution

Introduction:

The Industrial Revolution began in the late 18th century and ended in the 19th. The Industrial Revolution was the time when machines and factories were first built. The industrial revolution completely changed the world. It changed how and where people worked. Without the Industrial Revolution, everything right now would be very different.

Life before the Industrial Revolution:

Before the industrial revolution began,  most people worked at home and on farms. People did almost everything at home. Manufacturing was done at home or in small shops, with hand tools or basic machines.

How The Industrial Revolution Began:

James Watt’s invention of the steam engine is what really kickstarted the industrial revolution. The steam engine was one of the first engines ever made. The steam engine used the pressure of the steam to move a piston. Steam engines were often used for transportation. Before the steam engine, machines were powered by wind, water, animals, and humans. The good thing about the steam engine was that it could be placed anywhere, rather than a river or lots of wind. The steam engine was more efficient than animals and humans because it could run very long hours without getting tired. The steam engine was an amazing invention.

During the Industrial Revolution:

During the industrial revolution, huge factories were built to make products quickly, and in large quantities. Many people moved to the city. A lot of people (Including women and children) got jobs in the factories and helped operate the machines. The working hours were long and the conditions were difficult.  Life in the cities became hard since many people had moved in and overpopulated the cities. Many people became homeless, sick, and poor because of this. The biggest con of the industrial revolution was pollution. It grew and made the city air dirty.

After The Industrial Revolution:

The Industrial revolution ended in the early 20th century. It completely changed the way humans live. Cities are much larger and can afford to keep all their citizens.  Transportation is now by sea, air, or land. We are now living in the Technological revolution with more advanced technology than ever before. Factories nowadays are mostly operated by robots, and work very efficiently.

  1. You have given a really good overview of the industrial revolution Campbell. You have grouped your ideas into appropriate paragraphs, given good examples and stated all the main points. Well done! Your last paragraph acts as a good conclusion, though I wonder if the last sentence is not a 'finishing' sentence.
