Speeches 2017

This year I really enjoyed speeches. It was a fair challenge because we weren't allowed to write it at home, which meant that there would be No cheating. I was proud of my speech, but everyone did so well so I won't be going to the assembly speech challenge.
My speech topic was recycling.
This is what I presented:

You probably have seen this sign many times before. You probably know what it means. But do you ignore it?
Should you ignore it?
No.

You shouldn’t.

Recycling is important. If you think of it as nothing much, then you are wrong. It is really important and is one of the things that will save planet earth.

Recycling is where used plastics, like tins, cans, paper, etc get sent away in a truck and get squashed down to be made into new things. Recycling is good because it doesn't  harm the environment as much as rubbish does.

You will find these on the bottom of recyclable plastics. These tell the recycling companies if it is the kind of plastic that they are allowed to take. Some kinds of plastic are harder to recycle, so not as many companies take that kind.

Rubbish. Not the same. Rubbish is not good. Rubbish may be taken in a truck almost identical to the recycling truck, but what gets done to the rubbish is very different. Rubbish has different things that can happen to it. Most rubbish gets burned or taken to landfills. Both of these are really bad for the environment,

Paper can be recycled, but not everyone does recycle it. This makes more pollution and also makes the paper companies cut down more trees for their factories.

Here in New Zealand, we use landfills. Landfills are bad because of the fact that they bury it in the ground. Burning it is bad because the smoke pollutes the air. Some people don't care about their factories polluting our planet, they just care about earning lots of money. This is really bad and has to stop.

If you guys think that New Zealand doesn’t have much rubbish, then you are wrong. Each year NZ has 2.5 million tons of waste! That’s as heavy as one million two hundred fifty thousand cars! We need to reduce the amount of rubbish we get each year. Recycling more will help to reduce this.

Recycling will reduce the amount of rubbish that we produce each year. Recycle and save our world from global warming. Cmon guys, it’s not hard. Recycle now, and save our world.

I am proud of my speech and I wish to do better next year.
